The mission of the Community Improvement Department is to protect the lives and safety of the public, preserve quality of life, and contribute to economic development. Primary Responsibilities

The Community Improvement Department is responsible for the regulation and control of private construction, issuance and registration of  business tax receipts, investigation and enforcement of ordinances and codes, advice and support for engineering, planning and zoning, maintenance and filing of land use maps, construction plans, records and permitting.

The Community Improvement Department maintains the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM), and the responsibility to provide flood zone and associated information to those who make such requests.  They will also provide you with a copy of your elevation certificate if they have it on file.  

Please note that if you experience flooding due to drainage or sewer backup problems, you should contact the Public Works Department at 727-384-0701.  This department administers the drainage system maintenance program to ensure proper operation and to minimize flooding.  Upon request, a representative from either of the two departments will visit the property to review the flood problem and explain possible ways to prevent future flooding and damage.
